The New Hartford Babe Ruth baseball league is an official Babe Ruth organization. The national organization provides a summer baseball league for 13-18 year-olds across the country. All-star tournaments and national championships highlight the typical Babe Ruth summer.
With the enormous popularity of American Legion baseball (for 15-18 year-olds) in New York State, and specifically Oneida County, the New Hartford Babe Ruth organization keeps to a smaller 13-15 year-old structure.
Thirteen-year-olds make up the "Prep" division, a division will the goal of easing the transition from the smaller Little League fields to the larger regulation-sized in mind. The Prep division has been very successful for many years in the Oneida County area.
Fourteen- and fifteen-year-olds make up the rest of the New Hartford Babe Ruth league. Although the recent growth of travel teams have hurt the league in terms of maximum potential participation, the league has remained strong over the years.
In the last few years, the New Hartford league has forged a relationship with several area teams, resulting in the formation of an area league. The American League is made up of teams from Clinton, Waterville, Westmoreland, Oriskany, and Sauquoit, along with the two New Hartford teams. At the end of the season, the teams from the American League compete in the Oneida County playoffs with teams from the National League.
